8. If the kai is sounded over the taiko, the unit should spread out, take positions and be prepared. If the captain (御物頭) raises the saihai up and waves it to the left, then the unit should spread out and take positions to the left. However, depending upon the terrain, if there is an order from the kai, followed by two strikes each of the kane and taiko, the unit should take up their position and sweep to the right. If you hear alternating strikes of the kane and taiko, sweep to the left. This signal to turn either left or right should be decided in advance amongst the commanders and leaders.
